One way to pass down a family values legacy is to name the trust so that it reflects the values that are intended to be passed down. “The Smith Family Trust” says nothing: but “The Nice Guys Finish First Trust” says a lot, especially when there is a paragraph in the trust that speaks to the values, how they were acted upon by ancestors, and why they are good values.
Granted, when beneficiaries first find out there is a trust for them, they are interested not in words but in numbers. They may just cash the checks and if the trust is well drafted, perhaps feel a sense of gratitude. But at some point in their life, the beneficiary may see the check coming from The Nice Guys Finish First Trust and just the name will guide them in making a decision that will impact the beneficiary’s life in a positive way.
